Vantage Metro Central
Vantage Metro Central, designed by architects Broadway Malyan and constructed by St George plc, was completed in early 2009. With no apartments on the ground floor, the first and second floors contain 20 shared ownership apartments and the upper floors 48 privately owned apartments. The new tower is similar in style to Metro Central Heights and is aligned consistently with the older buildings.
The new tower that occupies the site where the Odeon cinema once stood. Like Alexander Flemming House (now Metro Central Heights), the Odeon was designed by Ernõ Goldfinger and constructed in 1967, and was widely regarded as an import example of brutalist architecture. The Odeon was demolished in a great hurry by owners Imry in August 1988, the weekend before it was due to be listed, in order to make way for a car park.
There has been some confusion surrounding access to the facilities of Metro Central Heights for the new building.
Parking
Vantage residents do not have the right to park in the Metro Central Heights car park. You will qualify for a Southwark parking permit for on-street parking in the surrounding area.
Gym
Vantage private residents do have access to the gym and pool, and contribute towards its upkeep through their service charges. Shared ownership residents do not by default have access to the gym or pool, and this is reflected in their lower service charges. However the residents association have negotiated a system whereby shared-owners can pay an annual subscription for gym access.
