Elephant and Castle Fusion Leisure Centre If you’re after local exercise classes these can be found across the round in the low grey building. There used to be a swimming pool here which has long since shut. The nearest pools are: Rotherhithe Seven Islands which is large and deep; Camberwell, left past Camberwell Green, small Victorian pool; Peckham Pulse, modern leisure centre with two pools opposite the landmark library, due to open again in 2007; if you’re after outdoor pools the nearest are Brockwell Park Lido, and Oasis in Endal Street Convent Garden.
There are plenty of private gyms in SE1, but another not for profit gym the Columbo Centre is just up Blackfriars road.
